Bringing Your Research into Class

Facilitator: Sheng Gao, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Statistics

Teaching about your research is one way to harmonize what can often feel like competing responsibilities. For graduate student instructors, teaching on your area of expertise can be energizing and empowering. For students, exposure to cutting-edge research can significantly boost their motivation and even affect their sense of what might be possible in their education or career. There are challenges, though, such as determining how to make your research accessible to students. In this workshop, we will discuss the interactions between research and teaching, as well as the benefits of integrating them for students. Participants will get the chance to draw on their own experiences so far to think through how to effectively merge research into their teaching.
