From Zoom to the Classroom

Convener: Ian Petrie, Senior Associate Director, CETLI

Many graduate student instructors who began teaching at Penn last year will be “returning to the classroom” this fall — except this will be their first time teaching in person (and for some it will be their first time even being in one of Penn’s classrooms). This session will allow participants to talk through the opportunities, challenges, and potential discomforts of this “return to normal”. What techniques and considerations underpin successful in-person teaching? How will they be affected by instructors and students wearing masks? What elements of Zoom teaching will we miss, and how might we replace them in the classroom? While this workshop is primarily aimed at those who started teaching in AY2020-21, all graduate students are welcome.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
