Giving Feedback to Students

Convener: Irteza Binte-Farid, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Education

How can we as TAs help our students understand the purpose of feedback, help them respond to it, and make sure that we address the specific needs of our students in order to promote students’ academic growth? The purpose of this workshop is to talk about how to best approach giving students feedback on assignments (primarily written assignments). A few points we will discuss: how building relationships with students is an important factor in student buy in; how to focus feedback on the goals of the assignment in light of the larger purpose of the class; and how to differentiate feedback for individual students, based on specific student strengths and areas for improvement.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate. Also counts as a follow-up workshop for SAS participants in TA Training.
