Helping Students Manage in a Stressful Environment
For many students, classrooms can seem daunting. From completing course materials to voicing answers aloud, students take on countless stress-inducing responsibilities within them. The last few years demonstrate that circumstances outside the classroom can take an equally if not more acute toll on students. This workshop will educate graduate student instructors on methods to alleviate and subsequently support struggling undergraduates. How can instructors teach students to balance the outside world with the microcosm of the classroom? What on-campus resources can instructors provide or recommend to overwhelmed students? And finally, how can instructors help their students manage stress without subsequently stretching themselves too thin? This workshop will not only investigate these questions but consider how instructors might address corresponding scenarios in the classroom.
