Helping students practice the skills and types of thinking you expect

Facilitator: Online Only
Convener: CETLI Staff

This session will focus on ways to give students regular, rigorous practice with skills and the types of higher-order thinking that you expect them to develop in your course. Participants will consider ways to use quizzes and discussion boards alongside assignments and live sessions to engage students effectively and how instructors can write questions that will support critical thinking. Finally the group will consider how to build difficulty each week so that students will be ready for their final assessments. By the end of this workshop, participants will have outlined a specific type of thinking for their class and designed a quiz or discussion board question that will help students practice that type of thinking.

This workshop is designed for instructors who will be teaching online classes this summer.
