Incorporating Scientific Literature in STEM Courses
Facilitator: Professors Rebecca Hubbard and Alisa Stephens Shields, Biostatistics
Convener: Jeremy Rubin, CTL Graduate Fellow, Biostatistics
As Newton famously said, “If I have seen further than others, it is because I’ve stood on the shoulders of giants.” Advances in STEM disciplines are built upon previously conducted research, as documented through scientific journal articles. Through this workshop, we will discuss strategies for facilitating student engagement with scientific papers, as well as the challenges and benefits of having students do activities centered around STEM journal articles.
All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Biostatistics department and so may be most useful to students in related fields.Counts toward the CTL Teaching Certificate.
