Innovations in Teacher Education

Facilitator: Mark Lewis, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Education
Convener: Professors Abby Reisman and Sara Kavanagh, Education

The stubborn absence of student discourse in K-12 classrooms creates a troubling conundrum for teacher education: how do we offer the next generation of teachers access to teaching practices they did not experience as students and do not find in most contemporary schools? In this workshop, participants will explore this complex and multifaceted problem by examining structural, curricular, and pedagogical innovations in teacher education that aim to make discourse-based, content-rich practice public and accessible to novice teachers. All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Education department and so may be most useful to students in related fields.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
