Engaging with the community has great benefits for undergraduate students, for instructors and for community members. In this workshop, we will discuss strategies for how university instructors and graduate students can implement outreach into their own course’s design. Doing so creates opportunities for the students to gain real world experience, which can help reinforce a breadth of learning objectives. For example, political science students may exercise their civic responsibility, while engineering students can gain a broader perspective on the impact of their research. This workshop will also review the logistical considerations that should be made in order to realize the full potential of community partnerships.
