Leading Effective Office Hours

Convener: Joe Rummaneethorn, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering

As an undergraduate, instructors’ office hours may have been vital to your getting through the toughest parts of your classes. Now in your role as a TA, your students may view your office hours as equally important to their learning. Some may come to you as a first recourse, while others may seek you out as a last resort when no other sources of aid are available or effective. In this workshop, we will discuss and reflect on practices and strategies that will allow you to help your students get the most out of coming to office hours. We will also examine how working with students in office hours — individually or in groups — can lay the foundation for, and also incorporate, good teaching practices such as inclusive teaching, time management, teamwork, and student support during tough times in the semester.

TA Training Follow Up Workshop (for new TAs in SAS). All graduate students are welcome.
