Penn will return to in-person teaching this fall, but that does not mean the anxieties and challenges of the pandemic and social upheaval are over. This session will focus on ways to create a course that accounts for the experiences and concerns students have lived and are living so that students can learn and reach your goals for them. Participants will explore some key practices for developing a class that conveys supportive empathy and security in this ongoing difficult moment: creating a predictable structure that supports learning, finding ways to build in flexibility, providing clear expectations for student work, planning for open communication, and considering ways to give students a sense of agency.
