Supporting Students When the Semester Gets Rough

Convener: Alexandra Brown, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Romance Languages

This workshop is designed to help TAs develop skills to help their students rise to the academic challenges naturally associated with a Penn education, or direct them to appropriate university resources when students may require additional support. TAs will learn how to identify students who may be struggling emotionally or mentally, gently broach difficult conversations, and set appropriate boundaries with students who may need more extensive support from other university resources. The workshop will also touch on self-care skills useful for both TAs and undergraduate students in managing academic and personal stressors during the semester.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate. Also counts as a follow-up workshop for SAS participants in TA Training.
