Teaching Research Methods

Convener: Diego Arispe-Bazan, CTL Graduate Fellow, Anthropology

This workshop will guide graduate student instructors in developing best practices for teaching research methods in their respective fields. We will talk about the goals of teaching methods as well as specific techniques by identifying key features and techniques students must learn by the end of any methods section or methods course. Topics will include how to present an overview of method, preparing students for research design, accounting for “mistakes,” and assisting students in developing their skills in academic writing. This workshop is open to all fields, as it will run via a combination of group discussion—to address general pedagogical issues—and small group work—to address specific disciplinary needs.

Counts toward the CTL Teaching Certificate.
