Students in the social sciences are often required to take applied research and research methodology courses and students approach these required classes with apprehension or anxiety. Instructors and TAs working in those courses struggle to motivate students and impart valuable skills. This workshop will consider topics such as including identifying student goals, scaffolding course assignments, managing semester-long projects, getting students excited about research and navigating differences within and across student populations while addressing a range of scenarios where instructors may have more or less agency concerning course content.
