Teaching the Ancient World Online

Online teaching is a powerful tool for reaching a diverse audience. It offers students the ability to attend courses with greater flexibility outside the traditional lecture hall. However, digital learning seems very different from the exchange we in the academy are accustomed to, and thus may present teachers with an array of new problems. This workshop is an opportunity for a discussion about ways to think about digital pedagogy. Professors Peter Struck and James Ker will speak about their experiences and methods for constructing, teaching, and evaluating online courses. Both professors have developed online courses for Penn and can offer insight into how we can utilize some of the advantages of the digital environment while mitigating some of its pitfalls.

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Ancient History department and so may be most useful to students in related fields.
