Teaching to Non-Majors

Convener: Phoebe Askelson, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Chemistry

As instructors, we have a unique opportunity to share some of what we enjoy about our field with students form vastly different backgrounds and who have widely varying interests. However, these students present a challenge: how do we effectively communicate the critical take-aways (and what are those take-aways) and inspire excitement to such diverse group of students? Participants in this workshop will discuss the problem of identifying the needs of and engaging with our students, then brainstorm novel ways to make the intro class structure work for us in fostering student enthusiasm!

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate. Also counts as a follow-up workshop for SAS participants in TA Training.

Part of the CETLI TA Training Follow-up Series
