The Power of the Syllabus! Crafting an Effective Syllabus to Chart the Course for a Great Semester

Facilitator: Professor Ameena Ghaffar-Kucher, Education
Convener: Elizabeth Dunens, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Education

As graduate students, we’ve seen a lot of syllabi in our day, and possibly had the chance to develop our own. Ever wonder what distinguishes the good from the great syllabi, or if you’re maximizing all that a syllabus can do? In this workshop, Dr. Ameena Ghaffar-Kucher will discuss how syllabus design and communication on the first day of class sets the tone for the rest of your course, and what goes into an effective syllabus approach. Participants should bring their own syllabus or a syllabus from a favorite class for a workshop activity.

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Education department and so may be most useful to students in related fields.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
