While the pandemic has put asynchronous learning in the spotlight, getting students to engage with course material outside of the classroom has always been a challenge. How can TAs help students make the most out of the time they are not in class? This workshop examines strategies for facilitating asynchronous learning while teaching in person. We will begin by discussing the most well-known strategy for asynchronous learning: homework. What can TAs do to make readings, problem sets, group work, written responses, or other types of asynchronous assignments more interactive? More accessible for different learners? More continuous with synchronous course material? To answer these questions, we will explore a range of digital tools and in-person tactics, all while trading experiences, challenges, and solutions from our various disciplines.
TA Training Follow Up Workshop (for new TAs in SAS). All graduate students are welcome.
