Transitioning from Graduate Student to Teaching Faculty

Facilitator: Professor Gretta Blackwell (ASC PhD ’16), Prairie View A&M University
Convener: Tyler Leigh, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Communication

We’ve spent many years as students, but soon many of us will make the transition to faculty. For those considering jobs with heavy teaching loads, this transition could be quite a shock. ASC alumn Gretta Blackwell (PhD ’16) will be joining us via Zoom to share her experience transitioning from graduate student to teaching faculty. We’ll discuss what to expect from and how to prepare for the transition from student to faculty as well as why you might want to pursue these types of jobs. This event is co-sponsored with the ASC Professional Development Committee.

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Annenberg School for Communication and so may be most useful to students in related fields.Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
